Our matcha is made by Ryutsu Service Co., Ltd. in Kikugawa, Shizuoka. Founded in 1905 and now in its fourth generation, the house raises the leaf, processes it and finishes it into matcha — steps usually split between three different companies in Japan.

Shaded for thirty days. Milled for the grade.
The leaf is all Shizuoka-grown — Tenryu, Kikugawa, Kakegawa and Makinohara — from seventeen partner farms. For at least thirty days before picking, the shoots are shaded, increasingly on trellises built under solar panels. Shade raises theanine, softens bitterness and turns the leaves deep green.
